Rock The Vote Interviews Miles
Slightly Stoopid
Tell us about your first concert experience:
miles: the first concert i ever went to was Stevie Wonder. My Mom and her friend got us backstage somehow to meet Stevie and the boys. i was just a kid and Stevie seemed larger than life to me.......to this day, one of the best concerts i have ever seen.If you couldn’t be a musician, what would you be doing instead?
miles: honestly i have been a musician for so long, and we have been a band since we were in high school, i have a really hard time knowing or even imagining what i might be doing if it was not writing and performing. if i had to guess though i probably would still be involved in the music business. if it wasn’t writing or performing i would still be drawn to working with musicians. as a kid, my father really instilled in me a sense of pride in what you do. so, regardless of music business or bartending or digging ditches, whatever my job is, i want to be proud of the job i have done and will do that job 110%.If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
miles - well....my first instinct is to say Jimi Hendrix. his buttery fingers and soul this world has never seen the like of. however....i would really love to jam with Motley Crue...they are hands down the greatest rock / hair metal bands of all time.If you became President, what is the first action you would take?
miles: i would walk in the day i got inaugurated and fire everyone. the "ruling class" in this country is so far removed from what real life is like that it is a joke to think they can try and tell any of us anything about the way life is or should be. this country should take care of their own. period point blank. so once everyone was fired and we had real people running the country my first course of action would be to give every American access to health care and a college education regardless of any qualification other than being American. What social cause is closest to your heart?
miles: being a father of 2 daughters, education for our children is something i hold very close to my heart. and when i look at the direction of public and private education in this country i have some concerns to say the least. What does the right to vote mean to you?
miles: -...that is a difficult question for me..i hold the right to vote and the privilege to participate in our democracy extremely close to my heart. i recognize the sacrifice that was made for us to live in the best country in the world with the most open and free democratic society humankind has ever known. That being said, i think the actual voting process needs some help...What bands or artists did you listen to when you were in high school? And which bands or artists influenced your style the most?
miles: so many different bands...from Bob Marley to Sublime to Zeppelin to Motley Crue....i could go on for days. we are influenced by so many different styles its hard to pinpoint any specific bands or genres that specifically are the inspiration for slightly stoopid. we like to think of ourselves as a melting pot of madness. What activity or group were you involved with in high school that might surprise people today?
miles: i was on our high school wrestling team. i actually wrestled for quite a few years before high school and my dad was our wrestling coach all through high school as well. now, on our off time, i am the wrestling coach at the high school i went to along with one of my best friends. so its kind of come full circle. What's the biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in high school?
miles: maintaining my grades while trying to juggle music and wrestling.Do you do any volunteer or community work when you're not on tour?
miles: yes, i coach local kids in my community on our time off. What change would you like to see in our society in the next year?
miles: - we need a little more compassion for human beings everywhere. seems as if that's always the thing our society leaves to the wayside. maybe some more compassion for those that are less fortunate, maybe some reflection on how we are all here on this rock looking for the same thing so we should all just chill out a little and stop hurting each other. That’s a tall order for one year though...

Interview: Slightly Stoopid « The Pier Magazine @ Red Rocks
Located in Morrison, Colorado is one of, if not the most beautiful venue in the world, Red Rocks. On August 6th, 2011 The Pier was invited back stage before Slightly Stoopid was set to play to a near sold out show on their Seedless Summer Tour. It has been a while since we have had the chance to interview Stoopid’s drummer RyMo and we made sure to ask the questions the fans want to hear. Such questions cover a possible Acoustic Roots 2 album, when we can expect the next E.P and their take on Sublime with Rome. Enjoy!
